Information on Company History and Asbestos Product Lines
Federal-Mogul Corporation was formed in the late nineteenth century and is the
parent company of numerous Debtors in these Chapter 11 proceedings. Federal-Mogul Corporation
itself never manufactured or sold any asbestos-containing building products. Various subsidiaries
of Federal-Mogul Corporation, or former subsidiaries of such subsidiaries, previously manufactured
or sold building products that contained asbestos, or brokered raw asbestos fiber that was or may
have been incorporated into such products.
Information regarding these companies and their products is set forth below.
T&N Limited, formerly known as T&N plc, Turner & Newall PLC or
Turner & Newall
Limited (“T&N”). T&N, a subsidiary of Federal-Mogul Corporation, was formed in England in 1920.
Federal-Mogul Corporation purchased T&N in 1998. T&N, through subsidiaries,
manufactured and sold
a wide range of asbestos-containing products in England and other parts of the world, including the U.S. and Canada. In addition,
T&N, also through a subsidiary, brokered raw asbestos fiber to companies
in various parts of the world.
J.W. Roberts Limited (“Roberts”) is an English subsidiary of T&N,
although it has been non- operational since about 1970. It manufactured in England a spray-on
fireproofing, acoustical and thermal insulation product called Sprayed Limpet Asbestos (“Limpet”),
which was distributed in the United States and Canada. Limpet contained 60 percent asbestos,
38 percent Portland cement, and 2 percent mineral oil. Limpet was only used in industrial, commercial
and governmental sites. It was NOT USED IN RESIDENTIAL SITES. In fireproofing treatments,
Limpet was generally applied on steel beams, girders, columns or the underside of flooring.
In acoustical treatments, Limpet was generally applied on ceilings or walls. In thermal
insulation treatments, Limpet was generally applied on tanks or turbines or structures
that produced heat.

TAF International Limited, formerly known as Turners Asbestos Fibres Limited,
and Raw Asbestos Distributors Limited (“TAF”) is an English subsidiary of T&N, although it
has been non-operational since about 1989. From 1932 to 1976, TAF brokered raw asbestos fiber
from mines in southern Africa to manufacturing companies in the United States. This fiber was
incorporated by those companies into finished products, some of which may have been incorporated
into buildings. The principal customers for such fiber were Keasbey & Mattison Company, Johns- Manville Corp.,
Raybestos Manhattan Corp., Metals Reserve Co. (a U.S. Government entity which allocated raw
asbestos fiber during World War II only), and CertainTeed Corporation.¹

Keasbey & Mattison Company (“Keasbey”) was a U.S. subsidiary of T&N from 1934 to 1962.
Keasbey went out of business in 1962 and is not a debtor in these proceedings. After being
purchased by T&N in 1934, Keasbey continued to manufacture a wide range of asbestos- containing
products, including textiles, insulation and pipe. It did not sell its products in Canada.
A list of Keasbey’s products that were or might have been used in building applications is attached.²
